If you are wondering what all those things on the table are... well it is a Persian tradition for new years(my dad is Persian) essentially it is like the christmas tree ;) We call it the Haft Sin and each and everything on the table (e.g mirror, apples, grass, coins etc..) is symbolic Haft Sin means "seven 'S'" This is because everything on the table starts with the letter 'S' in persian If you are Keen to know more about it check out wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haft_sin_table
