Due to their body size it was believed both were pregnant. Their moves had been pre planned and although it was known that the slings may affect the pregnancies, both were sent to Marine World Africa in Redwood City. Bonnie was the first to give birth 35 days after their transfer, the baby was stillborn and sadly Bonnie followed soon after dying 15 days later. Kianu now left alone gave birth on 22nd August 1968, sadly her baby was also stillborn, although Kianu survived. By the end of 1969 2 more orca arrived Nepo and Yaka. Kianu was interested in Nepo and often fought with Yaka over him, she was also not adverse to having a few tantrums and goes at the trainers. In 1969 Trainer William (Sonny) Allen describes being dumped and threatened by young female Kianu, including an incident where she pinned his leg against the side of her training pool. The following year - Trainer Jeff Pulaski, accustomed to riding young female Kianu during performances, was thrown off and chased out of the tank. Every day tensions got worse and it was decided to move Kianu to Nanki Shirhama Adventure World in Japan. She was moved in 1978. For one season she performed on her own and in 1979 she was joined by 3 new orca. Sadly the two females died within months, but the male Benkai survived. It was not known whether the two actually got on as they were from completely different pods and time was not on their side as Kianu sadly joined the other females and died in June 1980 from gastrointestinal disease. — at Nanki Shirahama Adventure World Japan.
