The Third Sunday in Advent is the Sunday of Joy. The candle color is Rose or Pink. Thus on this Sunday, the two purple candles and the Rose candle are lit on the Advent wreath. Often a pink rose is given on this Sunday to remember the Joy of this time of year. This candle of Joy is to bring a little light into this time of waiting for Christ to be born. At the time Christ was born the world was at its darkest and bleakest time in history, with moral collapses, horrible treatment of mankind, everyone for themselves, no love just greed laziness, murder, sexual sin was everywhere before Jesus came. Now a little light is brought into the world represented by the candle of Joy at the thought of His coming. This candle is sometimes called Mary's candle. Joy, as we wait for Christmas, and the birth of Jesus. He, who came into the world, to make a way for us to have salvation and eternal life to be forgiven of all our wrongdoings (sins). We look forward to the joyful celebrations we will share with those we love. When Jesus was born in Bethlehem, the angels brought "Good news of a great joy, which shall be to all people. that Jesus Christ the Lord is born" The good news of Jesus' birth and the promise of Shalom are still with us in, "tidings of great joy" for us today. Prayer: Thank you, dear God, for the gift of joy. Help us to be joyful even in tough times. Let us remember Joy is a deep knowing our loving God is taking care of all the things if we just trust Him. Let us remember the joy that comes from knowing you are our Savior and Messiah, Jesus Christ. (God with us) Amen!
