kIM 2 - Kim II was captured with Freya, Nootka IV, Haida II, and an unnamed male. Kim and Freya were sold to Marineland France. At the park, they met a female named Betty. The three performed for several years. On September 8, 1987 Betty passed away, leaving Kim and Freya. In October 1989, a female, Sharkan, and a male, Tanouk, joined the two. As Kim was the resident bull and Freya was pregnant, he took offence to the new bull who sadly had to be isolated in the back pool. Kim was a very prolific breeder On March 3, 1992, Freya delivered a stillborn, fathered by Kim II. On February 25, 1993, Sharkane gave birth to a female, named Shouka, fathered by Kim II. As Shouka grew, she formed a bond with her father, and the two were mostly seen together. In March 1993, Freya delivered another stillborn. As Tanouk grew, he and Kim had dominance problems. The two would harrass each other for dominance. The trainers separated the two, putting Tanouk in a pool alone. On February 14, 1996 Freya gave birth to a male, named Valentin, fathered by Kim II. Valentin is her only surviving calf. In November 1996, Tanouk was sold to a park in Japan. On February 23, 1999 Sharkane gave birth to a male, named Inouk, fathered by Kim. In March 2001, Freya delivered yet another stillborn. On June 1, 2001, Sharkane gave birth to a female, named Wiki. On May 19, 2002 Shouka was moved to Six Flags in Ohio. Kim became depressed and was less active as he had a really strong bond with her, but as she was reaching sexual maturity there was no one for her to breed with so she was sent to the USA. As we all have come to know the breeding programme is the most inportant thing in the tanks and the production of more captives to continue the shows, not the feelings of the orca! Freya and Sharkan had more calves but possibly due to his depressed state he never again formed a close bond with any of them. On November 23rd 2005 Kim 2 died from pneumonia. He had gained weight, didn't participate in shows and floated around for most of the time, he never really recovered from being separated from his daughter and was known to be depressed. Maybe his reduced state was the reason infection got hold of him. He was 24 years old hes one of my fav orcas
